Session 45: 23rd Day of Redfall, Moonday
Fargrim leads Bandur, Brutus, Grog, Heimund, Droop, Hagnulf & Bron with Gundren Rockseeker to Wave Echo Cave.
They discover the body of Gundrens brother. Leave Droop with Gundren and climb down a rope into a fall in with exits to SE & NW.
After searching the tunnels, and various rooms, fighting off attacks by Stirges, Ghouls and Zombies and with the party split up, they attempt to regroup. Heimund is missing, assuming he has made his way back to Gundren the others continue.
Session 46:
Using the Forge they pass all the weapons and armour through and they are enhanced. However there is one mishap, Brutus, in his own way, decides that he will accomplish everything faster by jumping through the green flames carrying all his armour and weapons. As he does so he changes as he progresses through the air, only to have turned into a wonderful golden statue, on a large golden plinth outside the double doors leading into the forge room. Bandur prostrates himself in grief and refuses to follow the others until he has prayed before his fallen friend.
Session 47:
Enthused with renewed vigour but saddened at their loss the others head south away from the boom, boom boom noise that has drawn them this way through the corridors. Entering a seemingly empty room with a closed rusting chest, they are confronted by Mormesk the Wraith. Bron and Heimund are sorely injured by its chilling touch. The wraith dispatched by magic, silvered weapons and spells the group search through the rom and fire a quantity of money, a platinum enscribed pipe and a fragment of a map sewn into a book cover. The group decide to retire back to the Forge room and rest.
Session 48: 24th Day of Redfall, Towerday
After a nights resting the group pushed on heading towards the boom-boom-boom noise. Descending rough, stone cut steps for 20ft or so brought the group onto a ledge. Looking down they could see a large underground cavern full of water. Waves rushing in to the cavern below made the boom noise as they struck the cliff some 25ft below. As the water pushed into the cavern from two tunnels the cavern below filled up, in roughly 2 to 3 minutes, the water level rose some 20ft then dropped away suddenly. 5 or 6 minutes later the process was repeated.
The group moved on and left the cavern by the south west exit. The route led them through a narrow opening and into the channel with the large water wheel in.
Moving swiftly Hagnulf pressed on then came to a sudden stop, he could go no further.
Grog held the rope steady as Hagnulf, Fargrim and Bandur climbed down. He slowly let Bron down as a fight developed below. 3 Bugbears had appeared on the cavern floor, there movement masked by the noise of the waterfall, both groups, surprised launched into a ferocious attack. Grog from his vantage could see 3 other Bugbears on the opposite side from him near the top of the waterfall.
The bugbears at the bottom were swiftly dealt with. However the ones on the far side had disappeared. Grog was about to descend when he was attacked from behind. The others had already scaled the waterfall cliff on the far side with the exception of Bron. Something had caught his eye had he was engrossed in digging it out.
No sooner had Hagnulf, Fargrim and Bandur scaled to the top of the waterfall than a warcry bellowed out and Bugbears poured out of both exits from the waterfall ledge. Grog was fighting for his life as the Flameskull he though he had killed yesterday was in front of him throwing magical fireballs at him. The battle was hard, fast and furious but the group overcame the bugbears and Grog managed to kill the Flameskull, he then remembered something from his past and poured holy water over the inert skull. It collapsed into dust and was no more.
Grog and Bron joined the others. Bron had found some gauntlets which Grog was able to identify as Gauntlets of Ogre strength. No use to Bron he passed them on to Hagnulf.
Session 49:
Fargrim and Hagnulf had already scouted the northern exit and Hagnulf led the way, taking his time and being extra cautious. His stealthy, quiet movement gave them an additional advantage. Moving along Hagnulf came to a locked door, no challenge for his skill using his thieves tools, the door swung open quietly as he had poured some oil on the hinges just in case they made a giveaway noise.
Bothe Hagnulf and Fargrim entered and found a badly beaten, tied up Dwarf lying on the floor. After untying him he was able to tell them his name Nundro, the 3rd Rockseeker brother. Fargrim brought Nundro up to speed about his dead brother Tharden. Leaving Nundro behind the group left the room and continued with Grog and Bandur leading.
Sticky webs were fired at Grog and Bandur, missing Grog, Bandur was incapacitated. Grog freed Bandur and they bought fought off a giant spider. Advancing into the room they were assailed by more webs from 3 giant spiders. Suddenly Fargrim was blasted by a ray of frost, Hagnulf glimpsed a figure hiding behind a pillar and fired off a quick arrow. The figure badly wounded, threw down the staff it was holding and screamed 'I surrender'. The 3 giant spiders were killed and Bandur identified the figure, who had divulged his name as Iarno Albrek, as the missing wizard wanted by Sildar Hallwinter, with a nice reward of 500gp alive or 100gp dead.
On the way to the entrance the group checked out a room used by the bugbears and spotted a skeleton with two shiny rings in a pool of water. Not only were the rings platinum and worth 150gp but they also found a wand of magic missiles. The group with the bound and wounded wizard escorted him and Tharden back to the entrance. Gundren was happy to find his brother still alive and promised the group a handsome reward once they got back to Phandalin.
The group re-united with Heimund and Droop, escorted the two Rockseeker brothers back to Phandalin with Albrek under restraints. Luck was with them as Sildar was in Phandalin on their return. Before Sildar departed he told the group to go read the decree on the Town Hall notice board. He then thanked them for capturing Iarno and he passed over 500gp as he took Iarno away. The Rockseeker brothers handed over a pouch with a mixture of gems inside. 1000gp worth of gems.
