Session 88: "Nothing comes easy......." or "How can you tell...........?"

 

Dates: 1492 - 2ND DAY OF FROSTMOOT - Continued

Mission:  In search for the missing children

Campaign: Elemental Cult Campaign

Present: Anor,  Bandur, Grog, Karion, Zindra, Fabien  & Fenn

Aramil staggered outside and called in Zindra and Fabien. Bandur went to the aid of Grog and poured a strange liquid down his throat. Grog coughed and spluttered himself awake. He thanked Bandur and joined Anor on the stairs. Anor opened the door and entered a 15ft square area with stairs at the north west end. He failed to notice the 2 arrow slits. He narrowly missed being crushed by the portcullis as it crashed down but his startled reaction made the arrow skim across his back rather than thud into him.

Bandur joined him in the small area, followed by Grog. Anor tried to raise the portcullis as Bandur attacked it with his battleaxe. Grog threw down his warpick and shield as heat seared through his armour. Fabien cast heat metal on the portcullis as Anor still held onto the bars, he was burned. Karion and Fabien cast spells through the arrow slits, Zindra fired fire arrows, then poured a gull skin of oil through a slit before firing a fire arrow and igniting the oil on the other side.

Grog cast freeing ray on the portcullis then rushed forward and held it aloft. One by 1 the group scrambled through the opening and up the stairs. Fabien had the forethought to pick up Grogs shield and dropped it on the stairs. Fenn picked up the warpick and did likewise. Anor had advanced down the corridor and was about to kick a door in when an arrow thudded into his back. Karion rushed forward and let fly with an arrow of his own. 2 Hobgoblins charged out of doors and attacked Bandur. Anor advanced and kicked in a 2nd door to be confronted by a 3rd Hobgoblin attacking from behind.

Zindra and Fabian fired arrows and bolts to support Bandur. Karion and Grog supported Anor. It wasn't long before the 3 Hobgoblins were killed. Then it fell quiet. The group searched the rooms and found that some Hobgoblins had escaped, beating a hasty retreat out of a small side door. It was Fenn who brought the groups attention to a well like opening in the larger guard room with arrow slits. Leaning over they could make out the 4 bodies of the children. Climbing down a rope the children weren't dead but under a sleep spell.

Moving to the entrance, Grog cast counter spell and the children looked around bewildered. Quickly reassured the group meant no harm and they had been tasked by their parents to find them, the children started to cry. Fabian had found a small chest in a room. They decided to take it along. Two hours later they were back at the farm, The parents asked the group to escort them to the safety of Red Larch. After quickly packing their valuables, the group led the family to Red Larch and safety. The group were offered a reward of 500gp for their work. The small chest netted more coin. The haul and reward were evenly distributed amongst the group. Fabien and Zindra took the opportunity to purchase a good mount each.
