28th day of Frostmoot: Early morning:
Mission: Destruction of the Air Cult
Campaign: Elemental Cult Campaign
Location(s): Feathergale Spire.
Present: Aerie, Anor, Aramil, Bandur, Garet, Grog, Karion,
Red Larch: Zindra, Fabien & Fenn
Grog remembered that his tower was stocked for another 2 days with food and water for the horses.
Plan were made. Karion would change into hawk form, Aerie would follow and the two would scout ahead of the party. The surviving Aarakocra had returned with the remaining Aarakocra from the valley and they told Aerie they would secure the Spire until their return.
Karion quickly found a steep path leading down to the valley floor below. The mound of rock stood some 350ft high before the base of the Spire began. The air was warmer and there was no mist this morning. Karion led in hawk form, Aerie following close behind but keeping tin touch with the remainder of the group. Garet led, Anor, Bandur, Aramil with Grog at the rear. The group came to what looked like the remains of a cobbled road way. Bandur picked up a loose cobble, he sniffed it, he licked it then turned it over. He wasn't surprised to see the Dwarven rune for G carved into the bottom. The same rune carved into the roadway leading to Axeholm.
The Roadway led passed some ruins, the only remains left some broken pillars. The remains of a bridge had once fallen and blocked the stream, had been carefully moved out of the way, larger pieces remaining forming a series of stepping stones across the stream. 2 faceless statues were on the far bank, details long eroded by the wind and the weather and the passage of time. They were not Dwarf like, although they were tall, thin humanoid in shape.
Karion spotted the air swirling on the path ahead, he warned Aerie how in turn warned the group. Anor and Bandur rushed to the far side of the stream, taking position between the statues. Aramil sought cover behind a ruined pillar. Grog moved to the hill on the left as Garet shadow stepped across the stream to the base of the hillock.
The air elemental burst onto the rocky hillock. Karion descended and returned to Elf form. A blast of energy went just wide of Aerie as she sought to identify where it had come from. A second blast struck her. Aerie closed in on a figure hiding in the trees. Garet launched arrows at the air elemental. A second elemental appeared and attacked Karion. Anor rushed to his aid. Garet managed to dispatch the air elemental as a 3rd appeared. Bandur rushed to support him. Grog charged forward lost is balance and fell headlong off the steep bank into the stream. Aramil moved to support Karion.
Aerie managed to kill the female, human, 'wizard'. Another blast of energy slammed into her from another position. Garet and Bandur killed the 3rd air elemental as Karion, Anor and Aramil killed the 2nd.
Aerie was hit as she closed with the 2nd 'wizard'. Garet managed to shadow step behind the 'wizard' and between Aerie and Garet they managed to kill her too. Another female, human 'wizard'.
The bodies were searched.
Each wore a simple ring with a swirling pattern design.
The group moved cautiously towards the cave like entrance that the stream spilled into. Bandur commented that the entrance was in fact an ancient Dwarven gateway, long since destroyed in some long forgotten event.
Following the path for a very long distance the group arrive at an enormous chasm which splits the earth as far as the eye can see in the pervasive subterranean darkness. A crude, narrow stairway hugs the rock alongside the chasm, twisting madly in hairpin turns around sharp outcroppings. Jagged and uneven, the stair threatened to spill the travellers into the chasm’s mouth.
After several treacherous miles, the stairway terminated on a broad, flat landing that jutted out over the immense black chasm. In the gloom, a lost dwarven city lay in ruins beneath the glittering cavern vault. Broken statues stand in the midst of empty plazas, staring sightlessly into the darkness. A huge step pyramid rises at the edge of the precipice, and from the moat that surrounds it a misty waterfall whispers over the chasm’s ledge.
Karion was the first to spot it. It was a simple leather strap jutting out from under a large stone. Grog, Anor and Bandur soon moved the stone out of the way to reveal a crushed backpack. Several broken flasks were inside, a grapple hook but no rope, the grapple was small, delicate but very strong. A small bone case, round, cylindrical was also inside. Crushed under the weight of the stone but the content had survived.......it was a crudely drawn map.
