17th The group waited for the return of the party delivering barrels of water to Boareskyr Bridge, and the arrival of the mysterious Glepper. Training completed, Baelin had proved to be quite adept in his techniques. He kept referring to an old military training manual, The Manual of Puissant at Arms Skills. Baelin had also confided in them that he was the previous Primus Paladinus and had left in disgrace when the Yuan Ti slaughtered the missing patrol of Paladins. Zinalla thought to himself that Baelin must be some age to be that Primus.
18th
The barge arrived back and with it Glepper, a Goblin! Glepper could speak Draconic and for a small price would get as much information out of the Kobold as he could. They talked about how they would do this.
Baelin called round to their house and informed Zinalla that he had received word from the Primus that his monthly pay would be late as the pay chest was overdue from Elturel. However the good news was that Zinalla did not have to repay the loan from the Primus. Zinalla was also forewarned that the merchant Adi Abba Adidas had left Boareskyr Bridge bound for Serpents Cowl. The very same merchant that had had the run in with Seraphina.
Questions were asked of Baelin about the Yuan Ti. Baelin explained that the surrounding area was once called Najara and there were rumours that the capital of Najara was lying beneath The Forest of Wyrms in ruins. When Najara fell the reigning king was deposed and a new King, Jarant (rumoured to be a non Yuan Ti), assumed control of the remains of the Najaran Empire. The ruling house of Najara, one of 7 Yuan Ti ruling houses, was House Hss' Tafi. Another part of Yuan Ti society was the Coiled Cabal. Recruitment into the Cabal was not restricted to House Hss' Tafi. The lowest unit in Yuan Ti society was the Oumkathuss, a small group of between 6 to 12 Yuan Ti. These were overseen by an Overhood and the Overhoods by a Greater Overhood. The ultimate leadership of the Cabal was the Iurcoil, a body of the 7 highest Greater Overhoods. The Cabal is dominated by arcane spell users.
Within the Yuan Ti the bottom of the ladder were the PureBloods, human in resemblance but with some marking or condition that would confirm what/who they were, next are the Malisons; stronger and bigger than PureBloods. Malisons have definite snake features, a tail instead of legs, snake head instead of a human one, scaly skin.
Above the Malisons are the Abominations, snake like tails, cobra like heads. Deadly fighters. Rarely an abomination will give itself to Sseth and be apart of the most painful ritual imaginable and if granted by Sseth will become an Anathama. These are huge versions of Abominations and are deadly users of the Arcane. They consider themselves to be Demi Gods.
Glepper: "So, I take it you lot will rough me up, throw me in with the Kobold to confuse him and then I get the information off him?"
Zinalla: "Um, well, yes".
Glepper: "This will cost you......and I want to tag along. Those are my conditions."
Zinalla: "Agreed, as long as you don't do anything rash".
Dameun: "Rash......you can talk!"
Seraphina: "Ok you lot, let's just do this one stage at a time. Listen Glepper, when you get the information we will pull you out for .....questioning. If we need to put you back in will that be ok?"
Glepper: "Oh goody, more money".
Glepper was stripped of his equipment, roughed up and thrown into the shed with the Kobold, even calling out a Goblin profanity and using the term 'Shiny Bollocks'.
At first the Kobold was wary but Glepper gained his confidence. After some time the group pulled Glepper out roughly, shouting at him that he was going to be asked more questions and the Kobold was next.
Glepper: "Ok, his boss, he kept calling him boss, is definitely a Yuan Ti. Probably a Malison from Baelin's description. He mentioned tunnels, a mine possibly and digging. They are near to a settlement with a palisade which I believe is to the south and the settlement is on a hill and the building they are in is close by".
The next part of the plan was to throw Glepper back into the shed. Have Brielle and Seraphina bring food but fumble locking the shed. Glepper would prompt the Kobold to lead the way to his camp and the others would follow. Like all plans, no plan survives first contact with the enemy or in this case Stuffantle!
Everything was going to plan, even Barlyn played his part by pretending to be asleep outside the shed on guard! They nearly made the fence when Stuffantle appeared shouted jailbreak and shot the Kobold dead with 1 arrow.
The others arrived quickly and surveyed the scene.
Seraphina: "You plonker Stuffings!"
Zinalla: "Well done Stuffings, this was a planned break out to find the main Kobold encampment!"
Stuffantle: "Well if you don't take me into your confidence and let me know the plan how do I know who to shoot and who not to shoot, eh Shiny Bollocks?"
Zinalla asked Baelin if he knew of any place that fit the description gained by Glepper from the Kobold.
Baelin: "That can only be Serpents Cowl. It has a palisade, is on a hill and is to the south.
Brielle: "What can we do without the Ranger, Tenver has left. How do we find our way to Serpents Cowl without getting lost?"
Baelin: "I'll send two trusted woodsmen with you how know the way. There is a trail but like you say, it is easy to get lost as there are many branches."
19th
Before departing Baelin ensured who was wearing the medallion of Mielikke. Zinalla confirmed he was. Elysande decided to remain in Whispering Woods and assist with the building of the palisade.
The journey was uneventful and Brielle even found some All Heale lichen
20th
Brielle continued his search for herbs, especially All Heale but all she found was a giant snake. Surprised by the snake it's first bite missed but it's second struck home. Seraphina darted in and struck the snake before deftly disengaging and prepared to strike again. Brielle manged to hit the fatal blow and the snake fell dead. Brielle failed to find any herbs but 6 more All Heale were found by others.
That night they organised the watch roster, with Glepper and Brielle volunteering to do the 2nd part of the night with only Dameun covering the first part. A sudden noise made Dameun call out to alert the sleeping group but only Glepper and Brielle woke immediately.
A host of Twig Blights swept into the camp and caused utter chaos with most of the group taking at least 1 hit before they overcame the attack, Zinalla took a serious hit. Dangerous as they were the Twig Blights were very brittle and too little damage before being neutralised.
