Session 7: "the light shines brighter in the dark".

21st Day of May 1492 

Weather: Clear.

High Temperature: 16 degrees Celsius.

Low Temperature: 7 degrees Celsius.

Mission:  Gathering information

Campaign:  Forest of Wyrms

Location(s):   Serpents Cowl Village, Embalmers Building.

Present:  Barlyn, Zinalla, Seraphina, Brielle & Glepper.

Remaining: Elysande & Dameun.

Mayor: "Ok, You (pointing at Zinalla), I take are the defacto leader of this merry band of adventurers. We will hire you, we have money to spare now (laughing), We will pay you 50,000 pieces of copper for proof that the Yuan Ti problem has been eradicated. We wont take no for an answer, so what say you?"

Zinalla: "What if we need to enter the Undercity to , ehm, eradicate the Yuan Ti problem?"

Mayor: "Then you have Our permission.......but you cannot remove any artifacts. 

Money and gems you may take, We will take 75%......not negotiable. You'll get the 50,000 payment when the task is complete."

Barlyn: "Tough deal, but better than nothing".

The others looked at him with dismay, Zinalla was going to haggle.

Zinalla: "Ok, looks like the deal has been struck. We may need some time to heal and rest up but tomorrow looks like time enough. First though we'll finish clearing the Embalmers Building."

Mayor: "Do that, yes, I will send 4 of Our guards to accompany you in your endeavours. Oh and I insist!"


Glepper & Seraphina were well hid, keeping the entrance under observation when the group and the 4 guards returned.

Seraphina: "Nothing's happened since you went away, What did the mayor say?"

Zinalla passed on the news and news of the 4 'chaperones'.


Brielle: We need to rest up awhile so I can recover my casting powers, we also are in need of healing, well some of us are!"

She looked in Barlyn's direction as she said the last part.

Zinalla: "Ok, we need to rest up. Brielle you need 4 hours in trance to recover your casting powers. So rest. We others will heal and keep watch."

A fire was lit and Brielle went into her 'Elf Trance' state.

It seemed like a long 4 hours. Healing was taken and Zinalla laid on hands. Brielle was fully recovered after her 'trance'.

Glepper and Seraphina led the way into the building. Expecting a corridor they were surprised by an entrance way with another set of double doors. Hearing nothing they opened the doors and proceeded into a corridor with double doors at the end and a door in each wall.


Seraphina, searching the left room, found a bookcase full of medical tomes, opening one she saw a diagram of how to remove a brain with a wicked looking wire tool through the nasal cavity. Glepper found a drawer and inside some papers, one of which mentioned the arrival of the merchant Adi Abba Adidas and he was bringing with him what had been demanded.

Barlyn: "The stones here are old, not normally found above ground, very old indeed. There was a story I was told as a youngster but .........wished I'd paid more attention, it's gone, the memory."

Leaving the rooms they opened the double doors and could see a table in the corner with tools upon it, there were open clay pots stacked near the table. 

Seraphina: "They're like the tools in the diagrams in the medical tomes I saw".

Glepper: "There's dried blood on these wood slabs, they're angled with grooves to drain down into that grate in the floor, there's more dried blood there."

Seraphina: "Don't know what the upright slabs are for but the pits have a shape of a body carved in them".

Brielle cast light onto a torch Seraphina had and one of the guards lit a 2nd. The room was very dim. They could see 2 more doors in the far wall. Seraphina checked the one on the left and Glepper the one on the right.


Glepper: "Well that one had 2 wooden shelf units and on the shelves were the same containers that are in the other room. Only these ones I think are full. I opened one and the smell was like old, dried blood. Didn't find anything else."

Seraphina: "Well guess what's behind door number 2? No! Stairs, going down!

The proceeded down the stairs, Glepper and Seraphina leading. Zinalla tried to calm the guards as the further they went they were becoming more anxious.


Opening the door revealed more steps going down. They estimated they were now some 75 to 100ft below ground level. Glepper slowed and stopped. He told them what he had seen.


Glepper: "Not happy about this, it's too easy. I suggest we retire to a safe place and regroup, rethink before we continue".

They agreed and retired to the main floor and the entrance to the Embalmers building they had left not 1 hour ago.

It was midday.
